VIDEO: Grasso's pitching, batting pace AI to win at Frawley
A.I. duPont's Peter Grasso drove in three runs and narrowly missed a complete game on the mound as the Tigers picked up a 7-4 win over Wilmington Charter at Frawley Stadium Monday night.
Grasso opened the game by taking the game's first pitch from Charter's Mike Cipolla into right field for a single, and would score along with Jesse Hall two batters later on a single by Regan Hidalgo.
After retiring the Force in order in the bottom of the 1st, Grasso stroked a 2-run single to left in the 2nd to double the advantage to 4-0.
He would get the rest of the insurance he needed an inning later by dribbling an infield roller down the 3rd base line to bring home Andrew Tunnell, and then Hidalgo smacked another 2-run single, this one to right field, to complete A.I.'s scoring on the night.
Charter would slowly work their way back into the contest, scoring single runs in the 3rd and 6th innings directly off of Grasso wild pitches.
Grasso struck out the first two batters of the 7th inning, but then hit a batter, had an error by his 3rd baseman, and then another hit batsman load the bases. Cipolla then followed with an infield single to bring the game to 7-3, and then after a bases loaded walk to Patrick Harris, Grasso was removed.
Brian Kasey entered the game with the tying run at 1st and winning run at the plate, but forced a groundout to 2nd base to end the game and earn the save.
A.I. (15-2) completed a two-game sweep of Charter (12-4) in the regular season.
