Myrtle Beach washes over Blue Rocks
A 4-run first inning was just the start of a huge night for the Myrtle Beach offense as they rolled past the Blue Rocks 12-0 at Frawley Stadium Friday night.
Wilmington's Jon Lamb (2-4) was in trouble from the outset, giving up singles to the first three batters including an RBI single to Rougned Odor. Following a groundout, Royce Bolinger smacked a 3-run homer out to left field to put the Pelicans up 4-0.
Lamb seemingly settled down from there, pitching scoreless baseball the rest of the way through six innings, but the 7th inning was a different story.
A single and double put runners at 2nd and 3rd with nobody out as Lamb was replaced by Antonio Cruz, but three more runs scored on an RBI fielder's choice, double, and single.
The Pelicans then picked up 5 more insurance runs in the 9th off of Andrew Triggs to complete the scoring.
Wilmington's offense never got in gear, collecting just six hits on the night, five of which came off of winning starter Alec Asher (4-2). Asher did not walk anyone and picked up five strikeouts.
The Blue Rocks were 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position in the shutout.
The series continues Saturday at Frawley Stadium.
