Delmarva celebrates agriculture heritage with Chicken Festival
The 64th Annual Delmarva Chicken Festival kicks off in Snow Hill, Maryland today - celebrating Delmarva's poultry industry.
Spokesperson Connie Parvis tells our sister station Delaware 105.9 that the family entertainment includes carnival games and lots more.
"If you like arts and crafts, there will be an arts and crafts show, there will be a trade show for commercial vendors. there will be baby chicks, hatching right there, that you can watch," says Parvis.
The event also highlights the importance of the poultry industry to Delmarva.
"The value of the chickens, when they leave the processing plant here on Delmarva, is more than $2 billion dollars. That is a lot of dollars coming into the economy of a rather small area," she says.
Festival-goers can also enjoy delicious food cooked in the trademark giant frying pan.
The festival is open Friday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Admission and parking are free.
