Blue Rocks offense explodes early in road win
The Blue Rocks put together a seven-run 1st inning, then held off a Lynchburg rally in a 15-8 victory on the road Monday night.
Eleven batters came to the plate for Wilmington in the first inning as they tore up Hillcat starter Navery Moore for four singles, two doubles, a triple, a sacrifice fly, and a reached by error in the opening frame.
Six straight batters reached base at one point, including consecutive RBI hits by Dennis Rabin (single), Daniel Mateo (double), Parker Morin (2-run triple), and Geulin Beltre (single). Alex McClure's 2-out RBI double and Justin Trapp's sacrifice fly completed the scoring in the 1st for Wilmington.
Lynchburg put together a four-run 7th inning to cut the deficit to 11-6, but 2-run 8th and 9th innings proved enough for Wilmington.
Tyler Sample (1-3) earned the victory by giving up two runs and five hits in 5 innings of work.
All 9 Blue Rocks shared in the 19 hits the offense picked up, with Dennis Raben's 4-for-6, 3 RBI effort topping the list of four Wilmington players with at least three hits. Morin and McClure also drove in three runs.
