Route 40 reopens earlier than expected
A major roadway reopened Saturday night, after it was shutdown for a week.
Due to construction, Route 40 in Bear was not set to reopen until August 26, but DelDOT's Bud Freel says DelDOT and Norfolk Southern finished earlier than expected.
The $1 million project included improving drainage systems, raising rail beds, and adding sidewalks with crossing gates to provide a safe crossing for pedestrians.
Freel says although Route 40 is open, expect limited lane closures for paving. He says the job should be done completely by Thursday.
