Ever eat a pawpaw? You can this weekend!
Find out what a pawpaw fruit tastes like this weekend at a special festival.
WDEL's Mellany Armstrong reports.
The second annual Pawpaw Folk Festival is being held at the Blue Ball Barn at Alapocas Run State Park in North Wilmington. Interpretive program manager Barbara Woodford says the pawpaw, a native tree to Delaware, is important food.
"This beautiful butterfly called the zebra swallowtail, the only place it can lay its eggs and caterpillars can grow is the pawpaw," Woodford said.
People can eat it, too. Woodford says it has flavors of banana and mango. The free festival, which features music, crafts, storytelling and pawpaw recipes, runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. State park fees apply. For more information, click here.
