VIDEO: UD's Brock looking for improvement heading into DelState game
University of Delaware football coach Dave Brock says last Thursday's 51-35 win over Jacksonville in the season opener was a good start from a results standpoint...but improvement is needed in a lot of areas.
Brock pointed out some of the obvious positives....611 total yards by the offense and minus 37 yards rushing by Jacksonville, the third lowest total in program history.
But one area that needs to get better is special teams. Even though there were some good things on special teams, a missed field goal and missed extra point, plus some lengthy runbacks by Jacksonville were reasons for concern.
The Blue Hens host Delaware State Saturday in the hornets first game of the season.
Brock says Del State is an unknown for him because it's the Hornets first game.
He says all he has to go on is film from last year's team where Del State graduated several outstanding skill players on offense. He did say Delaware State has a number of fine players back on the defensive side of the ball.
As far as the schedule is concerned, Brock says he doesn't have any real input...but he does like to play a difficult schedule.
He says playing "up" is fun for the players and helps harden them for the games to come.
Delaware will host Delaware State on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
