VIDEO: Woodbridge wins DFRC Classic game against Appo
Woodbridge only won two games last season, but Thursday night's DFRC Kick Off Classic game against Appoquinimink proved that the 2013-2014 season could end with different results.
The Blue Raiders came to play and secured a 21-13 victory against the Jaguars.
Appo took the early lead in the opening quarter with a quarterback sneak play from Shane Anderson with three minutes left in the first.
On the following Woodbridge possession, Anthony Jefferson knotted the game at seven a piece, when he scored a touchdown on the return.
At the end of one the score was tied, but Appo took the lead again in the second. Demetrius Word rushed for the touchdown with 10 minutes left in the half. The kick was no good and Appo took a 13-7 lead.
The Blue Raiders continued to have success on offense. With 17.6 seconds remaining, quarterback Logan Wescott carried the ball to the end zone, followed by a Brent Adams kick, and Woodbridge had the 14-13 edge at the half.
In the final quarter, Appo and Woodbridge had a few miscues with fumbles and interceptions, but not before Woodbridge scored one more touchdown.
Senior Ricky Rayford rushed for a touchdown to secure the victory.
Appo dropped their first game of the season but will play their second contest against Glasgow next Saturday, while Woodbridge hopes to stay hot against Polytech next Friday.
