VIDEO: Sallies pulls out a thrilling OT victory
Sallies' coach Bill DiNardo huddled up with his team after Saturday night's battle and said, "Wow, wow, wow!" Not only did the Sals pull out their first win of the season, the boys came out on top in exciting fashion.
Caesar Rodney traveled up north to Baynard Stadium, where they fought until the very end. The two teams went back and forth, but the Sals did something the Riders couldn't do. They scored a touchdown on fourth down to get the 41-35 overtime victory.
The home team got on the board first, when Troy Reeder scored a 4-yard touchdown with 8:35 left in the first. Reeder would score two touchdowns for the night.
It didn't take long for CR to answer back as Cody Connell scored a touchdown to put the Riders within one.
With the clock running out in the first, Sallies' Brian O'Neill scored on a 42-yard reception. He also kicked the extra point to tie the game at 14 a piece.
The Riders took the lead going into halftime, when Deshawn Schuler caught a 23-yard pass from Alex Kemp. Timothy Steindl followed up with the kick to gain the 28-21 edge.
In the fourth, Evander Blue of Sallies scored a rushing touchdown with 7:54 left to knot the game up for the fourth time at 35.
The clock ran out to send the game in overtime. CR took control first. On fourth down, Kemp threw to Kendall Wicks in the end zone but the pass was broken up by Blue.
Sals' took possession and Matthew Sgro gave the ball to Daulton Gregory, who rushed into the end zone with the game-winning touchdown.
CR's Wicks and Naquan Watkins, and Kemp also added touchdowns for the Riders. Sals' Tyler Marroni also earned a touchdown.
Sallies will play William Penn next Saturday, while CR plays host to Middletown on Friday.
