VIDEO: Brandywine picks up second win against Archmere
Brandywine football has struggled to win games in the past. But after winning its season opener against St. Elizabeth, and hosting the second game against Archmere Thursday afternoon, the Bulldogs hoped for its best start in many seasons.
The Auks took the first lead, but Brandywine's confidence on offense set up a 27-18 victory.
After a scoreless opening quarter, Archmere blocked a punt to gain great field position in the second. Jack Malloy rushed for a 15-yard touchdown to give the the Auks the 6-0 edge with 8:15 left in the half.
The lead was short-lived because Brandywine's Tyrezz Walker answered with an 8-yard touchdown, followed by a two-point conversion from Richard Hill.
The Bulldogs extended the lead 15-6 before halftime, when quarterback Sayvon Willis found Hill for the 95-yard touchdown. Christopher Schiavi kicked for the extra point.
In the third, Brandywine continued to pressure the Auks' defenders, and Willis rushed to the end zone with a quarterback sneak.
In the final quarter, Archmere scored again. John Nocket's long reception set up a Malloy touchdown. The Auks trailed 21-13.
The Bulldogs answered with a Stefon Johnson touchdown, but the Auks made one last run with 11 seconds remaining. Auks' quarterback Brian Rogers connected for 23-yards to Malloy, who scored his third touchdown of the game.
The Auks fall to 0-2, while Brandywine travels to Lake Forest next week to see if the Bulldogs can make it three straight victories.
