VIDEO: Ursuline bounces back to defeat Notre Dame (Pa.)
Ursuline's Alexandra Kochie and Stephanie Drake combined for 25 kills as the Raiders rallied from an early deficit to defeat the Academy of Notre Dame (Pa.) 3-1 in volleyball Friday night.
Notre Dame used a 4-1 run to break a 21-21 tie late in the opening set, claiming the victory after Alex Quigley's kill on set point.
Ursuline quickly responded to the opening set disappointment by winning eight of the first nine points of the 2nd stanza, including a kill and block by Drake on back-to-back points. Notre Dame would get no closer than seven points the rest of the way, as the Raiders claimed the set 25-10 to seize the momentum.
The visiting Irish started the 3rd set out strong however, getting a block from Colleen Donnaly on the opening point, and a Kristen Karlson kill helped give them an 8-5 advantage. Ursuline used its own 8-2 run to get the lead, and after Notre Dame tied the set at 16, Ursuline finished on a 9-4 run to win 25-20, and give themselves a chance to end the match in four sets.
That is exactly what happened when Madeline Hughes spiked home match point for a 25-13 victory speared by a 13-3 burst including a pair of kills by Kochie.
The Ursuline freshman finished with 13 kills and 3 assists, while Drake contributed 3 blocks and six digs along with her 12 kills.
Quigley led Notre Dame with 9 kills.
