Wilm Mayor on shootings and violence: We will win!
Coming off a weekend of five shootings in Wilmington, the Mayor pledges to win the fight against violence in the streets.
Mayor Dennis Williams tells Delaware's Morning News the fact that the large majority of the victims, and maybe the shooters, are teens points to a problem that starts at home with parents that take no positive role in their kids' lives.
"Are they letting these kids raise themselves? These kids aren't getting an education in school, they're just laying around with idle time to do whatever they want to do. These are the things that we're trying to do. It's very difficult with the resources that we have, but you know what? We are going to stretch thin and we're going to do everything we can to work this out. I made it perfectly clear. We've been in for eight months, we're going to win...make no mistake about it...we are."
Williams suspects at least some of the four shootings on Sunday were retribution for a murder on Saturday.
He calls it an "idiotic" situation where people take the law into their own hands.
