VIDEO: Ursuline star verbally commits to Villanova
Ursuline junior Adrianna Hahn put an early end to suspense by verbally committing to play basketball at Villanova beginning in 2015.
The point guard, who has started for the Raiders since her 8th grade season, said she tried to "trick" the Wildcats' coaching staff when she shared the news.
"I got some bad news, they said 'what?' I said 'How am I going to tell these other schools no?"
Those other schools include the University of Delaware, which actively recruited Hahn, with Head Coach Tina Martin and assistant Tiara Malcolm spotted at games at UA. Hahn also said that Boston College, James Madison, and North Carolina State were all even just behind her top choice.
The road to a Division I scholarship for Hahn wasn't always smooth, she suffered a knee injury during the 2011 playoffs, but quick rehab had her back on the court for the 2011-2012 season, which ended in a State Championship victory over Sanford. The Raiders lost a narrow semifinal title to eventually champion St. Elizabeth in March.
Hahn says everything just fit in place nicely at Villanova, including her hopes of entering one of the top business schools in the country.
"Really being close to home and my best friend Alex Louin (from Mount St. Joseph's in Pa.) is also committed to Nova. It's a win-win situation, my family is going to be able to come, my coaching staff at Ursuline, my Belles family (Travel Team), all of them are going to be able to come and watch me play."
Villanova went 21-11 last season, losing in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. Head Coach Harry Perretta is entering his 36th year on the bench on the Main Line. He has a record of 638-404 (.612).
Hahn and Ursuline open up their 2013-2014 schedule on December 7th when they host Dover.
