Amtrak sees record ridership along NE Corridor
Officials say Amtrak carried a record number of passengers in the budget year that ended Sept. 30. The nation's passenger railroad network carried 31.6 million riders.
Ridership in Amtrak's Northeast Corridor between Boston and Washington was the second-highest ever, at 11.4 million passengers, despite interruptions caused by Superstorm Sandy.
And Amtrak's long-distance routes recorded their best ridership in 20 years with 4.8 million passengers. Ticket revenues also increased to a record $2.1 billion.
