Del.'s top teachers could get reduced mortgage rates
Encouraging home ownership among teachers--that's the goal of a new state incentive.
More than 160 teachers in the new Delaware Talent Cooperative could be eligible for reduced interest rates through a new partnership between the Delaware Department of Education and the Delaware State Housing Authority.
Teachers who qualify could get a half-percent reduction for a mortgage.
"I hope that a lot of them try to take advantage of the offer. I think it might be something hugely beneficial to some of our younger teaching staff and some of our teaching staff that have moved to the area and would like to buy a home here in Delaware," says Angeline Rivello, Director of Teacher and Administrator Quality under the Teacher and Leader Effectiveness Unit at the Delaware Department of Education.
The program is aimed at keeping the state's best teachers in high-need schools.
The program is being offered in conjunction with the Delaware Department of Education and the Delaware State Housing Authority.
