Newark teen arrested in series of armed robberies
State police make an arrest in connection with several armed robberies in the Newark Area.
Police say 17-year-old Jared Gomez of Newark robbed or tried to rob three 7-Eleven stores and two gas stations over the last three weeks.
After getting tips from the public, detectives arrested Gomez at his home Monday.
The first attempted robbery happened just after midnight October 25 when police say Gomez, carrying a handgun and wearing a mask, tried to go into the 7-Eleven at 13 Red Mill Road. He wasn't able to get in because of a locked door. That same morning, police say he robbed the 7-Eleven on Kirkwood Highway. Police say he went back to the Red Mill Road 7-Elevent and robbed it October 29th. He's also accused of holding up the Meadowood Gulf on Capitol Trail November 2nd and trying to rob the Riggins gas station on Capitol Trail November 3rd.
Gomez is in the New Castle County Detention Center on $465,000 cash bail.
