VIDEO: Appoquinimink earns third straight win at the Bob
Appoquinimink's Evan Ward drained two free throws with under a minute left to go in a tight game against St. Georges. That would be the difference, as the Jaguars picked up its third straight victory with a 45-44 win at the Bob Carpenter Center on Thursday.
Appo (3-0) held on to an 11-8 edge through the first quarter, but the Hawks inched closer in the second.
St. Georges (2-1) even took a 20-14 lead, after Vincent Kent went inside for a lay up and Darrall Mosley hit a free throw. But a three by Appo's Myles Cale brought the Jags within one. Then Ward hit a buzzer beater to give the Jaguars a 21-20 lead at the half.
In the third, St.Georges and Appo knotted the score three times, but Appo stayed at the top 32-28 at the end of the quarter.
In the final quarter, both teams struggled at the foul line but Appo proved to be just a little more accurate. The Hawks went 8-14 at the line in the fourth, while Appo sank 5-9 collectively.
Appo's Cale led the Jaguars with 15 points and Jalen Warren chipped in 14 points. Warren and Cale both hit two 3-pointers each.
St. Georges' Lamar Hamrick led all scorers with 18 points and Zaire Jacobs-Beazer added 13 points for the Hawks.
Appo, that won only six games last season, will try and continue the streak when they head to St. Mark's on Tuesday. St. Georges hopes to rebound against Delaware Military Academy a week from today.
