Bill calls for better locks on Del. school doors
Delaware locksmiths could see a surge in business under a school safety bill proposed by a Democratic lawmaker.
In advance of the January start of next year's legislative session, Rep. Earl Jacques Jr. of Glasgow has pre-filed legislation requiring that every door into a classroom in every public school must be lockable from both inside and outside of the classroom.
Jacques says many classroom doors currently can't be locked from the inside, even though an inside lock could help prevent an intruder from entering the classroom.
There's no word yet on what it would cost to retrofit classroom doors throughout the state.
