Armed mini-mart robbery suspect thwarted by clerks
The alleged suspect of a Newark mini-mart stick-up returns a week later to attempt robbing the store again, but reportedly foiled by two employees.
State Police say a robbery took place at the Smoke Land Outlet and Mini Mart, located at 1147 Christiana Road, at about 7:15 p.m. January 17th.
Investigators say the suspect threatened a 21-year-old clerk with handgun before taking off with cash.
The same clerk was working Friday night, when police say he recognized the suspect on a parking lot security camera.
A 29-year-old co-worker allegedly confronted the suspect when he entered the store and police say the suspect attempted to pull a handgun out of his pocket before running out the door.
State investigators say the older employee was also carrying a handgun, and shot two rounds at the suspect's car.
As the suspect exited the parking lot, his car allegedly hit a parked tow-truck. Reports say the driver noted the suspect's license number.
32-year-old Ronald Keller is linked to the license number, according to police.
Keller was taken into custody without incident at 6 a.m. Saturday morning at his home on Anderson Road.
He was committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $32,000 Secured Bond.
