Teenager sentenced in fatal shooting of woman
A Delaware teenager has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for the fatal shooting of a woman who was the victim of a home invasion.
Daiquan Reams, an 18-year-old Wilmington man, told a judge at his sentencing Friday he shot Tamekia Kearney in May 2012 because "I just wanted to fit in."
Reams was 17 at the time of the shooting. He told investigators he killed the 28-year-old Kearney to help a friend who had been involved in the home invasion. Kearney had been cooperating with police at the time of the crime.
The News Journal reports prosecutors struggled to get witnesses to cooperate. They agreed to recommend no more than 15 years for Reams as part of a plea deal.
