Toddler's death at Bear daycare under investigation
An investigation is underway into the death of a one-year-old girl who stopped breathing at a daycare in Bear Thursday.
State police spokesman Cpl. John Day said the 13-month-old girl was found unresponsive after a nap at about 3 p.m. Thursday at One Step Ahead Daycare and Preschool.
"A daycare worker attempted to wake up the girl and found the girl unresponsive and not breathing," Day said.
The girl was pronounced dead at Christiana Hospital. Day said foul play is not suspected.
"The body has been turned over to the medical examiner's office for a determination of the cause and manner of death, but there's nothing suspicious," he said.
A spokeswoman from the Department of Health and Social Services said Friday afternoon that the medical examiner needs further medical studies to determine the cause of death.
Representatives from the daycare could not be reached for comment.
