Ex-NM Governor urges Del. death penalty vote
Former New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson lends his voice to an effort to repeal the death penalty in Delaware.
WDEL's Joe Irizarry has more.
Former New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson was in Dover to urge the House to discuss and pass Senate Bill 19 to repeal the death penalty in Delaware.
Richardson speaks to his experience as governor in dealing with the same issue.
"In the past, as I mentioned, I had believed that the death penalty served as a deterrent to some who might consider murdering a law enforcement officer, a corrections officer, or a witness to a crime, but people continue to commit such terrible crimes even in the face of the death penalty," said Richardson.
Richardson and others in attendance spoke to the momentum in the United State and around the world to repeal the death penalty.
