VIDEO: Archmere lax can't track down Md. foe
Archmere's Katelyn Payne scored four goals, but her Auks couldn't overcome a huge first-half deficit in falling 17-12 to Sts. Peter and Paul (Md.) Friday afternoon.
Kristen Moran recorded a hat trick in the first 7 minutes of the contest as the Sabres raced out to a 5-1 lead.
The Maryland squad would eventually take a 9-3 lead after a fortunate bounce for the visitors found the back of the Auks' cage with 1:38 to go in the half.
Archmere stormed back however, scoring the final two goals of the first half in the final 15 seconds on tallies by Presley Conaty and Amanda Olsen.
Momentum would stay with the Auks to start the second half, as Payne connected on a pair of 8-meter opportunities to suddenly bring Archmere with 9-7 with 21:37 left to play.
Three different Sabres scored in a 3-0 run that claimed the next 3 minutes of the clock, putting Sts. Peter and Paul up 12-7.
Once again Archmere seemed to have the answers, as they responded in kind by goals from Anna Baxter, Payne, and Conaty in the span of just 41 seconds to make it 12-10.
Four of the next five goals would go Sts. Peter and Paul's way, and they held on from there to earn the victory.
Moran led the Sabres (7-2) with 4 goals, with both Megan Hickey and Shelby Lehman reach recording 3 goals and an assist. SPP will host top ranked Cape Henlopen in a showdown on Monday.
Conaty added a hat trick for Archmere (9-2) who travel to Ursuline on Saturday afternoon.
