UD denies indoctrination charge The University of Delaware denies a civil rights group's charge that the school's residence life education program forces university-approved views on students. Audio Here UD officials released a statement Wednesday saying far from stifling free speech, the non-mandatory program encourages it, presenting participants with a range of ideas "to stimulate conversation and debate" on various topics. Tuesday, The Foundation for Individual Rights in Education, or FIRE, said the university's residence life education program amounts to an "Orwellian" attempt at thought control that violates students' rights to freedom of conscience and freedom from compelled speech. In calling for the program to be eliminated. FIRE claimed program participants have to subscribe to University-approved views on issues including politics, race, sexuality and the environment.
