SO2, NOx releases from Valero
By Frank Gerace

DNREC's investigating releases of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide from the soon-to-be-closed Valero refinery in Delaware City.

The agency says more than 100 pounds of sulfur dioxide and more than 10 pounds of nitrogen oxide, both considered dangerous by the EPA, were released beginning around 9 Tuesday morning, and were still being released around 6:30 Wednesday night.

The releases are the result of flaring taking place while the refinery's FCC unit is shut down.

Valero officials announced the closing of the refinery last Friday.
