Del. seeks millions in fed. education grant contest

Governor Markell says he expects Delaware to win millions of dollars in federal money by strengthening schools.
Markell joined the state education secretary, other school and business leaders in
announcing the state's $107 million Race to the Top application. The nationwide
competition is designed to encourage and reward states that are innovative and successful
in education reform. Audio Here
More than $4 billion will be awarded to schools whose students reach tough academic
standards, that keep quality teachers, that track student performance with data
collection methods, and that turn around low-performing schools. The winners of the
competition will be announced in March.
