A West Chester man is charged with attempted murder and resisting arrest in connection with a high-speed chase with police that started in Pennsylvania and ended in North Wilmington Thursday night.

Wilmington police say Kennett Square, Elsmere, and New Castle County police were already pursuing Spencer Clark when he drove into Wilmington and city cops joined the chase around 9:20.

Police say Clark ran several lights and stop signs and tried to run-down an officer in the 1 thousand block of Shallcross Avenue.

The officer fired at Clark, but missed, and Clark ended up on I-95 northbound and Route 202 before the chase ended at the intersection of Foulk and Wilson Roads.

Clark wouldn't get out of his car when he was ordered to do so, and police took him out and handcuffed him.

In keeping with police policy, the officer who fired at Clark is on administrative leave pending completion of an investigation.
