| VIDEO: Highlights of Rocks/Salem | Salem shortstop Xander Bogaerts' 2-run double in the opening inning was all the Red Sox' pitching staff needed as they edged the Blue Rocks 2-1 Wednesday night.
The game featured a fantastic pitching duel between Salem's Brandon Workman and Wilmington's Tyler Sample.
Workman pitched 6 strong innings, allowing just a 2nd inning solo home run to Wilmington's Brett Eibner among the 3 hits. The right-hander struck out 6 Blue Rocks.
Meanwhile, Wilmington's Sample nearly went pitch for pitch, only allowing Bogaerts' double over 5 innings, while striking out 9 Red Sox, but still dropped to 0-3 with the loss.
The win snaps a modest 2-game winning streak for Wilmington, they will try to win the 4-game series Thursday night at 6:30.
