Baker supports easing pit bull restrictions

Mayor Baker wants to loosen regulations on pit bull owners in Wilmington.

Baker says breed-specific restrictions will make it difficult to find a new animal-control contractor this summer once the contact with the Delaware SPCA ends. He tells The News Journal that the city can't afford to start its own animal-control operation.

He says he supports "eliminating the extra layer of regulations" placed on pit bulls.

Under the city's law, pit bull owners are supposed to register their dogs, keep them on a leash and muzzled while outside and abide by other requirements.
