At Thursday night's meeting, Councilman Paul Ignudo introduced a resolution opposing the plan by DART First State's parent company to reroute buses from Rodney Square to Shipley Street between 8th and 9th, saying the time for public comment on the plan has passed.

"But I wanted to make sure at least the City Council weighed in and got this to the director of DART," Ignudo said.

Former city police officer Stephen Martelli, the only Council member who voted against the resolution, recalled his days patrolling the Market Street beat.

"I would look forward to my lunch hour and I would go sit on the steps of Rodney Square and I would have a beautiful view of the lawn there, and King Street and downtown. You go there now and, if you don't get accosted, you get a view of a wall of buses," Martelli said.

A final decision on the plan will be made in June.
