One cat was killed in a kitchen fire in a home in the Carrcroft development in North Wilmington.

Firefighters were called to the home at the intersection of Marsh Road and Baynard Boulevard just before 7 a.m.

Brandywine Hundred Assistant Fire Chief Gary Rauso says no one else was hurt.

"Took the line in, knocked the kitchen fire down, and started doing our primary searches and everything. We found out nobody was home, did find three cats. Two cats are good. One cat was a fatal," Rauso said.

The state fire marshal's office now says the fire, which started in the kitchen from heated combustible material in the trash, was accidental.

Damage to the house was estimated at $50,000.
