VIDEO: Interview with Greg Matthias

Delaware's Greg Matthias will represent the Blue Hens in the NCAA Division I Golf Regional at the University of Michigan Thursday.

The senior won the CAA conference championship April 29th at the Wilmington Country Club by firing 4-over 217 during the three day tournament to win by a single stroke. Matthias won the title at the same course where his father, Jim, won the 1982 Delaware Open.

The Salesianum-alum will be one of 10 individuals not part of a team competing in the 3-day regional in Ann Arbor, Mich. The top 5 teams along with the low individual not on those teams will advance to the National Championships May 29-June 3 at The Riviera Club in Pacific Palisades, California. He will be joined by his coaching staff.

Matthias says he sees no reason he can't compete on the national level saying he plans to "take it one shot at a time, and see if I can get into contention."

Greg joins former Blue Hens teammate Justin Martinson as one of 11 Delaware golfers to participate in the tournament. Martinson took part in the 2010 Georgia Tech Regional.

The two still play rounds together, and Matthias says "I learn more than anything that kid makes a lot of birdies. It's a mindset you gotta be in to go low and to not be scared and just let it go."
