By Mellany Armstrong

A county police dog that had apparently had a stroke Sunday has died.

Bandit, a four-year veteran of the police department, was taken to the hospital Sunday night, and it was discovered he had an inoperable brain tumor. The 6-year-old German shepherd was put to sleep Monday afternoon. He last worked Saturday night with his handler, Corporal Paul Chickadel.

The police department is organizing a memorial service for Bandit.

Another county police dog, Diablo, who was shot last week in the line of duty, has now developed pneumonia. He is being treated at the University of Pennsylvania veterinary hospital in Philadelphia.
