House passes bill banning slow drivers from left lane
The state House has passed a bill prohibiting slower moving vehicles from impeding traffic by remaining in the left lane on Delaware highways.
House members voted unanimously Tuesday for the bill, which is intended to prevent slower drivers from remaining in the passing lane and blocking cars behind them. Chief sponsor William Carson, a Smyrna Democrat, has said that can lead to road rage.
The bill includes an amendment clarifying that motorists traveling at the posted speed limit in the left lane would not be in violation of the proposed law. So tailgaters who expect other drivers to move out of their way even though they are going at or above the speed limit may see little relief if the bill passes the Senate.
