Rumors and questions about the selection of a new principal at St. Mark's High School have prompted the superintendent of Catholic schools to send out a letter addressing the issues.

WDEL News has obtained a copy of the letter sent to parents, students and alumni yesterday.

In the letter, Superintendent Cathy Weaver notes that the current principal, Mark Freund, has resigned effective June 30th, and that a principal selection committee has narrowed the field to five candidates.

Some alumni have created a Facebook page supporting one candidate.

Weaver addressed rumors that faculty members were being fired, stating that no teacher has been dismissed, but that several teachers have been told that if enrollment falls at or below projections for next year, their contracts may be deferred.
