Southbound Interstate 495 has been reopened after being closed for several hours Thursday morning due to a tractor trailer accident and fire in the southbound lanes just south of the I-95 split in Claymont.

Delaware State Police say the semi hauling a load of latex developed a flat tire, hit a guardrail and came to rest shortly after 5am.

The impact caused the fuel tank of the tractor to rupture, spilling about 50 gallons of fuel on to the roadway.

A piece of wood underneath the vehicle caught fire but was quickly extinguished.

The driver wasn't hurt. The roadway was reopened after about four hours.
