Another man who says he was sexually abused by a priest when he was an altar boys in Wilmington is suing the diocese and St. John the Beloved Church.
The man, who calls himself John Doe #1 in the suit, says he was another victim of the
Rev. Francis DeLuca. DeLuca was a priest at several churches in the Wilmington diocese
for 31 years.
John Doe #1 says DeLuca abused him more than 40 times between 1961 and 1964 when he
was an altar boy at St. John's. The 58-year-old Doe, a married U.S. Marine Corps veteran,
claims the diocese covered up DeLuca's sexual abuse of young children because of a
shortage of priests at that time.
Doe's lawyer, Tom Neuberger of Wilmington, claims DeLuca has a 40 year history of
pedophilia. The 77-year-old DeLuca was sentenced by a New York judge last year to 60 days
in jail for repeatedly molesting his 18-year-old grandnephew.
