A Colorado man suffers serious injuries after being struck by an SUV while trying to run across I-95 near Newport.

State Police say the driver swerved to try to avoid hitting the man Sunday afternoon at about one o'clock, but struck him with the right front side of his vehicle.

A helicopter flew 36-year-old Christopher Dillon of Durango, Colorado to Christiana Hospital where he was admitted.

Dillon also faces a citation.

The driver, a 40-year-old Wilmington man, managed to stop his vehicle safely. He and his teenage son were not injured.

The incident affected southbound traffic for about two hours.
