Guides are being sought to give tours on the Lightship Overfalls ship, which was designated as a National Historic Landmark in Delaware last year.

The ship, built in 1938, is docked on the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal. The Daily Times of Salisbury reports that it opened its 2012 season over Memorial Day weekend and will be open every day, except Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Ted Kanakos, a founding member of the Lightship Overfalls Foundation, says volunteers are needed to serve as ship guides and that each tour takes about 35 minutes. He says many volunteers have maritime experience, but that it's not required.

Lightships are ships that act as lighthouses. The foundation says the Lightship Overfalls is one of seven lightships in the country that is still open to the public.
