Delaware All-State Theatre presents 'Hairspray'

The show is "Hairspray."
Amanda Garcia-Walker, a senior at Middletown High School, is excited play the lead role of Tracy.
"She has a lot of energy so I just have to keep myself really pepped up, and I have to make sure the energy's on 10,000, can't be any lower," says Garcia-Walker.

She had to change her voice too.
"I had to make it a little bit higher so it sounds more like nasally and Tracy!" she laughs.

16-year-old Andre Revels from Christiana High School plays Seaweed.
"I really get deep into my character and really find the funk inside of it," says Revels.

He hopes the serious topics like racial segregation, covered in this fun musical, really hit home with the audience.
"We don't need to really see each other as different. Some people still have up their barriers and their blinders, which hopefully this show allows them to take down," says Revels.

With 40 students from 20 schools in the state, the show opens June 22nd at the University of Delaware's Thompson Theatre.
"They should come see the show because it's going to be phenomenal. The cast is stellar; we've all worked very hard, and the set is unparalleled to anything I've ever seen," says Garcia-Walker.
