Delmarva Power promotes hurricane awareness

June 1st is the start of hurricane season and Delmarva Power is warning area residents to be prepared for emergencies.

Being safe during major storms starts with an emergency response plan--that's what Delmarva Power president Gary Stockbridge warned area residents during a hurricane season awareness event at the company's headquarters in Newark.

He says Delaware residents should report any power outages and avoid downed power lines.

Stockbridge was joined by American Red Cross regional executive Patrick Delaney says planning for emergency situations with family members is the first step to keeping safe.

Jamie Turner, director of the Delaware Emergency Management Agency, also attended the meeting and says families need to be aware of rising water levels in their communities--before it gets too dangerous.
