Post House closing today after 64 years

Customers will be looking for a new place for breakfast after the Post House restaurants serve their last meals today.

Longtime customer Bill Lawson of Brandywine Hundred says he'll miss his favorite haunt on Market Street.

"Everybody's real friendly, and you can see the people that have been here for awhile, it's like family, and we're all going to miss them," he said.

Pamela Wood has been getting breakfast and lunch for more than 20 years.

"I told them I'm going to cry, I'm going to try not to cry, but, especially with Neecie and all of them, they are so nice, when I walk in the door, they already know what I want," she said.

Owner Ellis Stehl knows his customers by what they eat after cooking for them for 42 years.

"They're not a number, they are actually a name. We know everybody by their first name when they come in, practically, we know what they want to eat before they even sit down, and they're all disappointed and sad," he said.

Karen Gentry has worked at the Market Street restaurant for 30 years.

"It's very sad, very sad. It will be very hard working the last day," she said.

Wayne Flournoy says he'll probably stalk Ellis, he'll miss him so much.

"Sine he had to close the place, it doesn't mean we have to lose the guy. We really love him," he said.

"It's 'Cheers' without the beers, and they just make you feel like you're doing something important," Stehl said.

It's now up to the landlord what happens to the locations on Market and Union streets in Wilmington, and on Main Street in Newark when they close today.
