Calls for Wilmington Police Chief Mike Szczerba's resignation rang out down Fourth Street as dozens marched on police headquarters.

After one of Wilmington's most violent weeks in history, people are angry and want change, people like Penne Well whose cousin died last week. She called for this march.

"Wilmington, Delaware is not getting what we're supposed to get. Our kids should not be out here with guns," says Well.

Well says it doesn't need to be like this.

"My heart really goes out to this girl who shielded a 10-year-old baby. She shouldn't be dead. She should be home feeding her baby," says Well.

They're all calling for police on foot in the city's most troubled neighborhoods.

"Hilltop, Center City, East Side, Southbridge, Downtown, Browntown, all around town," screams Pastor D.

Johnson says their protests won't stop here.

"We want Chief Szczerba in the next 24 hours to respond. If he doesn't, we'll be back with thousands," promises Johnson.

Police Chief Szczerba is reacting to calls for his resignation.

He tells WDEL he's met with Pastor D in the past and is happy to do it again, but he hasn't asked directly.

"Maybe, that's an assumption on their part. I have not heard. I don't believe anything has come through our Mayor's office or the police department," says Szczerba.

Szczerba says he's dealt with calls for him to step down before, and he's as frustrated by repeat criminals as the citizens of Wilmington.
