Kowalko touts single-payer bill; GOP chair underwhelmed
By Frank Gerace

State Representative John Kowalko says a bill he and another Democrat introduced Thursday to set up single-payer healthcare in Delaware will increase access and cut costs, but the Chairman of Delaware's Republican Party isn't impressed.

Kowalko tells WDEL News the measure he and Representative Earl Jaques unveiled would set up a system funded by a graduated payroll tax.

State GOP Chairman John Sigler says the payroll tax is part of the problem with the bill--in a statement issued Friday, Sigler said the tax would kill jobs by increasing business costs, possibly causing companies like Amazon, which operates a facility in New Castle and is building another in Middletown, to leave the state.
