High school students met at a New Castle business Monday to celebrate the start of a new intern program that will give them a taste of the working world.
Eight seniors from William Penn High School were selected to spend their summer at Delaware Business Systems, a small company that provides technology services to local stores and restaurants.
Intern Anncileta Gitau says she hopes the experience will give her a leg up when she applies to college next fall - and when she looks for jobs in the future.
"That will help me with a lot more than just college, but also finding better jobs as well. I think it will put me ahead of the game better, because most people, they don't have this kind of opportunity.".

The students will learn about sales and administration, and do hands-on work with the technology itself.
Gitau prepared for the internship through DECA - a program at William Penn that gets students ready for the business world.
"DECA really helped me a lot. And I'm taking business management as well, so that helped a lot too."

The program runs through the summer. In the fall, students can continue their jobs for school credit.
