Officials: Curfew centers in Wilm have helped curb violence before

State officials say curfew centers like one now open in Wilmington have had success keeping kids off the street, out of trouble and away from the kind of street violence that has claimed four lives in the past week.
Susan Cycyk with the Delaware Children's Department says the program, based at the Walnut Street YMCA, offers alternatives to street gangs and involvement with guns and drugs.

After last week's rash of shootings in Wilmington, the state is laying out three hundred thousand dollars; one hundred thousand of which will pay for the curfew center to operate and another 200 thousand to extend the hours at ten support centers around the city.
