Errors in Markell campaign finances
By Randall Chase, Associated Press

Gov. Markell
Gov. Jack Markell is preparing to sign legislation strengthening Delaware's campaign finance laws, but state election commission records show several irregularities in his own campaign finance reports.

In one case, the Pilots Association for the Bay and River Delaware wrote a $7,500 check to Markell for Delaware in October 2010, but the check was deposited instead into the account of the Delaware Democratic Party.

The $7,500 was among $11,000 in donations the pilots association made to Markell in 2010 and 2011, far in excess of the $1,200 limit for contributions to statewide candidates.

An Associated Press review of campaign finance records found that Markell's campaign neither reported receiving the money, nor subsequently issuing refunds totaling $11,000 in two separate checks to the pilots' PAC.
