A Republican lawmaker from Sussex County is calling on his General Assembly colleagues to pass a bill aimed at providing parity for federal pension benefits.
Ocean View Representative Gerald Hocker is sponsoring House Bill 97, which would exclude the first 37 thousand 500 dollars of federal pension benefits, including military benefits, from state income taxes for certain federal workers.
The bill is meant to equalize the treatment of federal workers not covered by Social Security, or are partially covered by it.
Private-sector workers fully covered by Social Security are already exempt.
Hocker says his bill has wide bipartisan support.
