The House sponsor of a bill designed to protect owners of manufactured homes from arbitrary rent increases says she'll try again to get the measure passed, even though it failed in the state House Tuesday.

Majority Whip Valerie Longhurst, a Democrat from Bear, says she's optimistic about the measure's chances next year.

Senate Bill 205 would require owners of manufactured housing communities to seek approval from the Governor's Advisory Council on Manufactured Housing if they want to raise rents by amounts exceeding the previous year's Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers.

The bill was defeated in the House last week, 22-14.
