FY '13 operating budget introduced
By Frank Gerace

State lawmakers Tuesday introduced a budget proposal for Fiscal Year 2013.

The nearly 3 point 6 billion-dollar spending plan is 2 point 2 percent bigger than that for Fiscal 2012, with Medicaid and teacher unit costs accounting for most of the 78 point 2 million-dollar hike.

JFC co-chairman Representative Dennis P. Williams, a North Wilmington Democrat, says the proposal is the result of six months of hard work to come up with a budget that maintains essential state services and protects Delaware's most vulnerable residents while holding the line as much as possible on spending.

This is the third straight year the budget's been introduced at least a week before the end of the legislative session.

Members of the public will be able to review the budget before lawmakers vote on it June 30th.
